  1. 1. The default: Argos Translate

Verso uses Argos Translate out of the box. It is free, works completely offline, and produces good translations for most common language pairs. No setup needed.

  2. 2. When to upgrade

If you are studying a less common language pair, or if translation accuracy is critical for your workflow, DeepL produces noticeably better results. It offers a free tier with a monthly character limit that is enough for casual use.

  3. 3. How to change the provider

Open Settings on the desktop app and select Translation Provider. Choose a provider from the list. If the provider requires an API key, paste it in the field that appears and click Save.

  4. 4. Translations are cached

Once a word is translated, the result is stored locally. Switching providers does not re-translate existing words — only new words processed after the switch will use the new provider.
